Review: Witch Unleashed Untamed Unapologetic

Witch Unleashed Untamed Unapologeyic by Lisa Lister, was one of a few books I picked up last week. With in the first few pages, I almost put the book down. You may actually put it down. It is not meant for everyone. That is ok.

Over all the book is geared towards beginner woman witches. It talks a lot about Patriarchy and the damage it has done to woman over the centuries. The book also tells you to question everything including this book. It is clearly a feminist book.

Once you get past all of if it does not resonate with you, the books provides some basic information. The information is not anything new or not found elsewhere. It goes over the Sabbats, some herb, stone, and color correspondences, different way of divination, and so forth.

The positive thing in this book is that it highly encourages you to listen to yourself, to feel yourself, to know yourself. It also provides some path working exercises through out the book. The book is more of a guide or call to do your own research and developer your own path.

So if you are looking for an in-depth how to, this book may not be for you. However if you are looking for something with a different flavor, you might find this book interesting.

‘Till we next meet again; May your Roots never rot, and your growing never stop.

Have you felt the sun? Have you seen the buds? Have you smelled the earth? Have you touched the air? Can you see the change? Can you feel his presence among the fields, among the roots?  Look, There He stands. The Golden God, riding on his mighty boar, Gold-Bristled! We offer you __ to pass on fertility and prosperity to our fields and to us. We offer you ___ in thanks and honor of what you do. Participants walk past Freyr as he throws seeds/grains over them. Now is the time to put affirmative intent into the seeds that you have planted last we were together. Accept the energetic blessings of Artemis to protect your will. Accept the energetic blessings of Freyr to grow your will. Accept the energetic blessings of the essence of Fire, of Loki, to allow the necessary change within ourselves. When all have fortified their intentions begin the closing.

Your intents have been reinforced, it is up to you now to make them manifest. Once more feel the energies, merge with the energies present. Honor them and thank them. Our time in this sacred space is coming to an end. The influence remains. Let us depart with what we needed. Sound the Horn.

To West

To South

To East

And

To North,

Thank you for sharing this time and space with us. Leave if you must but know that you are welcome always to stay.

Today there is a mid winter thaw, Imbolc is on the horizon. The thaw is enough to show the bones of Winter’s carcasses. Thawed enough to reveal the ground and it’s muddies promise of growth. Imbolc is the time of great promise, the time of healing and letting go. A time for planting, a time for the future harvest to be born into the womb of the Earth.

This is a time within the Twisting Yew where the past and the future meet. Here is where

You make your choice for the coming season. Will you choose to hold the pain and keep looking back? Will you hold the lessons and the scars to plant the future? Only you will know which choice is yours to walk this season. Only you will plant your harvest.

As you have made your choice we take this remaining time with the Twisting Yew to honor the spirit of the season. In days past this was a time to Charm the Plough.

Lay the planting tools out.

Hail Freyr! Lord of the Fields! This is time of the year to lay your sword down and bless the seeds

Hail Freya! Maiden of the Spring! This is the time of the year for your shifting into Falcon and see where to best sow the seeds.

We Honor you Vanic Twins for your gifts, for your blessings upon us with our sacrifices.

Drizzle some over the tools

Pour some beer over the tools

Sprinkle some grain over the tools

Put some honey in a bowl

Pour some beer into a horn/cup

Place some grain on a plate

Blessed Nerthus. Mother and Body beneath our feet. Forever we honor you and your abundance. Bless this Plough, Bless these tools that will soon embrace You, so that we shall share in your abundance this coming year. You who open the Earth to us we offer this milk

The first milk of the season. Drink deeply, Drink passionately  of our sacrifice.

Pour the milk into the ground.

At this time participants may bring their personal tools to be blessed, add their own sacrifices and offerings etc…

Thank You, Freyr

Thank You, Freyja

Thank You, Nerthus

Go if you must

Stay if you Will

To Twisting Yew, Teacher, Wander, stripper of false. We thank you and for sharing your blessings upon our ritual.

Reading a bit of Mankey

No, I am not talking about the Mankey that stole Ash’s hat in the early episodes of Pokemon. I acquired a copy of Jason Mankey‘s The Witches Athame this past week.  As a Pagan of twenty plus years, I already knew what and how to use an Athame but that never stops me from reading new and old books. This book is just a year old and packs a good bit of information for its small size and young age. In all my years I never delved into the history of this particular tool. After reading this book, I now know a considerable bit more about the early references and uses of the Athame in witchcraft. The first half of this pocket book is dedicated to the history of the Athame and of ritual blades. A good 80% of the history is new information I have not come across. That in and of itself is something, because I have read lots of pagan 101 books.

The book also offers personal accounts from the Author and a few other notable Pagans. It is a great introduction to Athame rituals and uses in Wiccan practices. The second part of the book contains the uses and rituals for an Athame. If you want to make your own, the book covers the different materials and a few methods of making your own.

All in all this was an entertaining and surprising informative read. So if you have a quiet evening with nothing on your agenda, pick this book up and settled down for a couple hours. you will not be disappointed. Maybe you will but reading is good for the soul!

Until Next time, May your Roots never rot, and May your growing never stop.

Faith

Does it matter
Is it the same
A leap of faith
A walk down the insane
Do you see
Can you feel
Is your filter clogged
Do the drugs awaken
Do the prescriptions cloud
Is your culture ignorant
Is your society ambivalent
Are you neighbors malevolent
Are you strong enough to hear your own drum
Are you brave enough to walk alone.

Spell Bottle

Hail everyone,

Today I would like to talk about making a Spell bottle, for this is a good time to buy containers. Classic style calls for glass or earthenware containers, those are my preference. However, I am adaptable when I need to be, which lead me to this discovery a while back.  While out doing basic needs shopping I spotted these empty Christmas balls that are made to be filled. Satori! Here sits the modern spell bottle. Maybe I was just in a dark corner where the Internet did not reach me with this wonderous announcement, or the email spam guard kicked the memo into the trash box. Until that moment I was ignorantly in the dark about these wondrous new inventions. So I gathered up a small number of them.

DPP_6028

When I got I home I rounded up all the different ingredients I might need to make my first one.  At this time in my life, I was having a creative block. So I wanted to create a spell bottle that removed the block or brought inspiration into my home. I had already made a traditional witches bottle previously.

I set aside some rosemary, allspice, bay leaf, and some stones that called out to be included. I also put some random decorative items in as well, they are for camouflage. Once I filled the bottles, I used some hot glue to seal the top.  When it was ready to be hung, I chanted over it, to it,  and through it.

You may also paint the outside with sigils, prayers, or pictures. The ability to direct a spell at a particular person is also inherent in with these containers. Just place a photo of the person you wish to direct your spell towards. A reminder, any time you practice magick there is always a give and a take. Make sure you understand and are willing to accept that. With that said, the possibilities are as endless as your mind and your needs. Imagine a Yule tree or Christmas tree all decorated with these for a specific intent!

Until Next time, May your Roots never rot, and May your growing never stop.

Prayer Beads

DPP_6022

Growing up in America, specifically a Roman Catholic dominated area, I was exposed to rosaries. I still have the one gifted to me for my first holy communion. It is still in the white purse with the never opened prayer book and a saint card, sitting in the attic of my childhood home. My parents where paper Catholics as adults and they attempted to pass Catholicism onto myself and my sister.  I never took to it, though I do use some of the practices, like candle burning, incense, and now prayer beads.  Yes, I know these are all common to a lot of religions not just the domain of Catholicism.

It took many years to be comfortable with prayer beads. I always associated it with being Catholic, not pagan. After reading and learning about history and different religions I came to understand that it is another practice widely used in many religions.

Why would a Pagan, or a Witch use prayer beads? My answer is to create the right atmosphere for your mind to practice magik, receive messages, or to calm your mind. Using a set of prayer beads to put your mind on magik is easy. Before you do any work, grab your prayer beads get comfortable. Stat with holding a bead, then thank each deity, spirit, entity that you work with. If you only have one that you work with, start by thanking that diety. you can then move on to naming all the epithets they may have, listing accomplishments they have, or thank them for the gifts they have given you.

If you have several ingredients in a spell, you may also use your prayer beads to focus on the aspect of each of the ingredients needed for your work. For example, a love spell is what you are going to do today and you are using red candles, rose petals, jasmine incense. You may use just four beads of your prayer beads to focus on each ingredient. Pray to each ingredient, seeing each, feeling each becoming that ingredient for the time period spent holding a bead.  Some people may find this redundant, as they do this already when they do their work. That is ok. Others may find this as a useful key to unlocking greater efficacy of personal work.

How does one make prayer beads? The method is easy.

1. Decide on the number of beads in a set.

2. Decide on the number of sets.

3. Acquire beads and material to string them together.

The colors and types of beads may also be a consideration. In the picture at the beginning of this article is my homemade prayer beads. I chose to keep the traditional number of 5 sets for a rosary, however, I use seven beads and not ten normally used.  The skulls where a bead I liked and I found hematite separator beads to go in between the sets of skull beads. I could not find a suitable metal pendant and had to make my own using a bottle cap. The Santa Muerte pendant was ordered from Frater Setnakh.
Prayer bead may be as simple as a strand of beads, they do not need to emulate any other template. The most important thing is to make it work for you.

Until Next Time,

May your Roots never rot, and May your growing never stop.

Call to the Ancient Ones

DPP_6021

This ritual is an evocation to call to the Ancient Ones used to bring them into our world once again. Use this if you truly want to invite the Old Gods into your life.

Call to the Ancient Ones

To the Ancient Ones
Who flow through my veins
Who steel my bones
To the Ancient Ones
Who dance in my head
Who whisper in my ears
To the Ancient Ones
Who flutter across my sight
Who live in my heart
By name
By deed
By death
By legacy
By myth
By story
You are alive
You are remembered
You are honored
Through the threshold
Return once more
Enlighten this world
Hunt in this this world
Sing in this world
Dance in this world
Steal in this world
Lie in this world
But return again
To leave your mark upon
Those who have forgotten
Those who have never learned
Those who never believe

The Healing Bind

The Healing Bind

On the outside looking in
The hell of the past is continuing
I see where I’ve been
Where I am going
I’ve left you within
The circle of flames
Burnt to a sin
You are stretched across
A shallow grave
Ashes blowing in the wind

No more will you be tormenting
No more will you be hurting
No more will you be absorbing
The Chaos
The Confusion
The Identity

I have bound and burned
The skin you used to cut
The heart you used to eat
The mind you used to fuck

The pain, the fire, the rebirth,
Return to Earth
The control I gave
The feeling of you
I forsake
Within these words
Within myself
Strength I take

So mote it be!
